Quality? Nikon is one of the two large companies that make the cameras pros use. They are huge in the lens business, not only making camera lenses, but scientific and industrial lenses as well.

You will have to be more specific as to the model of the Coolpix you are considering.

One of my DLSR's (the D100) is a 6MP camera and I still use it professionally.

The hot ticket now is getting a point and shoot camera with Image Stabilization (IS)

What he said, but... Which one? There are at least ten 6.0 MP Nikon Coolpix cameras out there now.
