Which brand of digital camera is best ? Nikon? or Sony Cybershot?

It really depends on the purpose for which you are buying the camera.

If you are a ameatur photographer look for the following
1. Size of the camera

2. # of mega pixels -Higher the better.With 6-7 mega pix you
can take upto A4 size print outs.With 3-4 Mega pix 4x6 or
5x7 photos will come good.
3.Go for Sony/Canon/Nikon , it really depends on the model of the camera.Checkout circuitcity.com to do camera comparisons.
4.If you plan to take 6-7 Megapixels camera buy additional
memory of 1 GB , for 3-4 Mega pixels 512 MG or 256MB
external memory is enough.

I would prefer Nikon as regards photography.

It really depends of what kind of camera you are looking for. At the point and shooot level, pretty much every camera can do an excellent job. Almost all of these cameras are designed in Taiwan and manufactured in Taiwan, China or South Korea so the brand matters for very little. I would recommend the best deal you can get at the six megapixel level.

As far as SLR's are concerned, you basically have two choices Nikon and Canon. Again both excellent brands and if you ask ten 10 SLR users about their preferance they will most likely split exactly down the middle as to their choice of brand. I have personally gone for Nikon because the Nikon's have wider range of lenses to choose from...whereas with Canon some bodies cannot use the older Canon lenses. So economy rather than any great difference dictated my choice of SLR. I will be able to get cheaper Nikon lenses (and even second hand ones) than I will Canon.

i just bought a sony cybershot DSC-S500.
its a good value for money compared to nikon and better functionality. i wud go for sony

I personally prefer Canon, although if you are only comparing the two, choose Nikon. Sony digital cameras use proprietary memory stick or memory stick duo format--higher cost.

Sony's camera quality is one of the worst. they aren't good at all. I would pick Nikon over Sony but still I would pick canon or olypus over both of those. The cameras that Nikon makes aren't very good., they don't have many featurs. The Canons are the best on the market of point and shoot and Olympus makes a some great digital cameras too.

Canon sd 600, 630 and 800 is are the best quality cameras.
