Will a Nikon D80 use any nikon lens?

I am wondering about the compatability of the nikon D cameras (80, 200, 300) with older nikon lenses. I have heard that nikon has not changed its lens mount (i think it is the F mount right?) since 1959. So I am wondering if I am walking around a flea market and I find an old nikon lens or two will they work on a D80. Can anybody help with this?

Thanks in advance.

The metering will work on the D200 and D300 even color Matrix if it's maximum aperture and focal length is listed in the non CPU lens data in the shooting menu for the D200, Setup menu for the D300 (page 174 of the D200 and page 350 for the D300 of the user manual)

For the D80 no metering at all. ( page 117 of the user manual)

Beware it can't be a non AI lens.

Difference between lens.

The D80 will accept, mount, and meter with any Nikon-mount AF (autofocus lens). With the F-mount lenses that are manual focus, you will get manual focus only with them. They won't meter though they will mount.

To properly meter, you need a CPU-equipped lens. You can still use a handheld, external meter and set the camera manually.

So, to answer your question:
1) an autofocus lens will mount and meter.
2) a manual focus lens will mount, but not meter, but can still be used if you take manual exposure readings.

Anthony is right except for the metering. Only the Matrix metering is not enabled on the manual lenses. The spot and center weighted work just fine ... I use an old 20mm, 105mm and 500mm manual lenses from the middle 1970's
