Are Nikon lenses interchangeable between digital and non digital cameras?

I have a Nikon 35mm camera, and 3 Nikon AF lenses. I want to buy a Nikon digital camera. Can I still use these lenses?

The short answer is YES.

Nikon digital SLRs are compatible with Nikon film lenses and will METER with your autofocus lenses.

However, some Nikon digital SLRs will not autofocus with AF lenses that don't have a built-in lens motor (an AF-S type lens). You'll have to manually focus with these cameras if you don't have an AF-S lens. Those cameras are the D40, D40x, and D60.

With the rest of the Nikon lineup, you can autofocus with a Nikon AF lens: the D80, the D200, D300, and D3.(and the now discontinued D50/D70/D70s/D100 cameras)

The only other thing to think about: changes in focal lengths. With all Nikon cameras, except the D3, your focal lengths need to be multiplied by 1.5 because of the smaller sensor. So a 50mm lens looks like a 75mm lens (50x1.5). Or an 80-200mm looks like a 120-300mm lens.

But yes, you can still use your film lenses because they will definitely meter. And for autofocusing, just choose the right camera.

I use all my Nikon lenses on both my 35mm SLR's (F2, F4)and DSLR's (D100, D200's). If the lenses are not auto-focus, then I just focus manually ... like the old days.

My manual lenses include 20mm, 55mm macro, 105mm and 500mm. Auto-focus are 12-24mm, 24-85mm, 70-300mm and 400mm.

Yes, with a few exceptions all lenses will fit from 1959 on.
