Backup Camera Nikon D70 or D40x?

I was given a brand new Nikon D300 (18-200mm) today in exchange for one of my old cameras. (I know ... crazy deal). Trying to decide which one I should get rid of and why ... Any one have any ideas?

Both D70 and D40x are in excellent condition. As added bonus the D40x has an extended warranty on it.

I know I should probably keep the D40x but for some reason am having a hard time parting with the D70.

The D70 is a good camera, but it's also a noisy one. Compare you images between the D40x and the D70 and the D40x will not only be 10mp, but will have cleaner images.

The only reason to keep the D70: it has a built-in lens focusing motor, which allows it to be used with more lenses.

If you've got lenses without a built-in focusing motor (non-AF-S lenses), then that's a good argument for the D70 as your backup.

Otherwise, I'd get rid of the D70, as the D40x has better image processing. The other minor differences, like two wheel controls vs. 1 wheel control, I can live with in a backup.

I have a number of cameras and the D70 is my least favorite. I finally had it converted to infrared photography. I actually preferred the D50 to the D70. I think if you take a few photos, you'll find the D40x to have better image quality than the D70.

The D70 will autofocus with the widest range of Nikon mount lenses and gives you more control. As nice as the higher resolution and more compact D40x is, I'd stick with the workhorse D70.

Currently I'm using my D200 as my main camera and keeping a D70 for my backup.

By the way, I'd dying of envy over your trade!

keep the d70.it's auto-focus motor worth it.and remember that d70 is one step higher than d40,d40x and d60.it's a semi pro camera but d40x is a beginner one.
