Nikon D40 - Good place to buy?

I think I've decided to get the Nikon D40 camera - this is my first dSLR. But, now I'm wondering where to get it at a good price. The camera store near us is selling it for $499 and so is Best Buy, but I don't like Best Buy. Is it safe to buy such a camera online? Also, should I get the 55-200 lens with is as well?

I'm an amateur (to say the least), and I want this for fun and vacations.

Thanks for any advice!

Hey, the only reason the nikon d40 should be 499$ is if it comes with two lenses. ( one besides the 18-55mm lens ).

see, here on the website: http://amazon, the nikon d40 with the 18-55mm lens if only 465$, which isn't that bad, that's where i got my nikon d40, and i have don't any complaint about it at all.

You say that you're interested in getting the 55-200mm lens too, that wouldn't be such a bad idea. I don't mean to insult the cool 18-55mm lens, but you can't zoom that much on that lens, it's not very usueful for taking pictures of things that may be a bit far off, so, i think that you should consider the 55-200mm lens do accompany your nikon d40 purchase.

there's the link: it's a 150$ lens, which isn't really that bad :)

there's the VR ( vibration reduction) version of that lens, it's a little bit more expensive, but if it's something you want, you wouldn't necessarry look at the price too much. price:219$

You can get it on amazon or circuit city..its really safe to get things from amazon i get stuff all the time there no information is given out whatsover and it is shipped right to your door. In your case if your getting such an expensive product they won't just leave it at your door they will make sure you are given it in your hand.

Best answer???

circuit city. (since you dont like best buy)
or a big store like costco.
and yeah you can buy cameras online.

i dont really like the D40.
i'd go with the D80 for a couple hundred more.
