How much is a nikon D300 and does it work good?

I really want this camera for my birthday and I was wondering if it was good or not.
help please.

The Nikon D300 is a GREAT camera.....
(I don't consider it expensive, some do, it isn't cheap)
About $1600 + lens

The 18-200 VR lens is a great match for it, about $700?

But,

What is the price range you are looking at?
what is your experience level?

What do YOU expect out of the camera?

Do you have much experience shooting with a 35 mm SLR or other DSLR? It is a rather amazing camera with very advanced features.

the nikon d300 is very expensive, it's 1,700$ body only, and yes, it's a good camera, you get what you pay for, right ?

Yes indeed the Nikon D 300 is and excellent camera. But what really makes it shine is the Nikon 18-200 zoom lens, about 250.00 and the Nikon SB 800 flash, about 350.00. That's a lot of bucks!
