In the Nikon D40X ,is it possible to have a date stamp placed on the photo?

no help from other programs,done on the actual camera itself.
in settings where and how to go?
please tell step by step.

Since the advent of digital photography all that and more is saved on the EXIF data on every image and can be retrieved at anytime if necessary. You can always use a soft graphite pencil to make notes on the back of the print.

If you are thinking that the date on the image will prove when it was taken, that date is only as good as the one the photographer set in the camera

I have no idea--but the idea of having photos on the photo itself is so unattractive. The data is embedded into the file and it can be looked up at any time.

When I see it done, it is usually depends on the printing program (Adobe Lightroom is able to do this.)
