Just bought Nikon D80, photos much darker on computer than in camera view.?

When i take pictures with my Nikon D80, they look nice and bright at clear on the screen, but then when i upload them onto my computer, they are much darker. I had a D40 and this never happened. I haven't changed the settings on my computer screen so I know that's not the problem. Even if i take pics on A (auto) they look good on the screen and then dark when uploaded to computer. Even a dummy could take pics on Auto so I know the settings are correct. Pics were taken in a well lit room with flash. Any help?

Hmm. Do you have the camera LCD brightness set to a high level? How are your prints?

Press the Menu button
Go to the Setup menu
Go to CSM/Setup Menu
Choose LCD Brightness
If you do not see LCD Brightness as an option, go back one menu and choose "Full" instead of "Simple" and try again.
Adjust to a darker setting.
Compare the new level to your monitor and see if they match.

Or there might be a corollary problem. It's possible that your D40 LCD brightness was set to a different level and you just got used to that.

Check your LCD brightness setting. If your monitor STILL works okay with your D40 images, I'll bet that's the problem.

I hope that means it worked out for you... Report Abuse

Maybe you are downloading raw instead of jpeg format files. The important thing is to have correct exposure, if you can verify exposure with a histogram, try looking at that.
