Can the lcd screen on a nikon d100 be used to take a picture?

Other digital cameras use the lcd screen to "see" their objects. The nikon D100 seems to be able to only use the lcd screen to adjust settings. Is the camera capable of seeing the objects through the lcd screen?

The D100, like the vast majority of consumer, prosumer, and professional DSLR's does not use the lcd screen to "see" the subject.

That "live view" feature is a carryover from the amateur point & shoot cameras and has only recently been found on a few DSLR's, as a marketting tool.

In all my years of shooting news & sporting events, I've yet to see a professional beside me using the screen to compose his or her image.

There is a huge distinction between a P&S camera and a DSLR camera. One is a nearly totally automatic camera with a tiny sensor and a non-interchangeable lens. DSLR's are entry level to full professional level fully adjustable camera that support full professional systems of cameras and lenses.

There is really only a couple of times a photographer might find a Live-View camera useful. One is when using the camera to photograph through a telescope or microscope or when shooting in a studio and the camera is being used to photograph many small items and is connected to a AC converter ... Live-View uses a ton of electrical power.

You can't with Nikon D100.
