Advice on Begining artist Portraits, nudes etc....? |
I am interested in doing more photography with people, actually I really haven't done much. I don't like magazine portraits, but more artistical ones. I also would like to get into fine art nudes. I was wondering if anyone had any advice, books, or websites to share. Also how do you find models and set up a contract or what ever? Get a portfolio going at modelmayhem.com, and Onemodelplace.com. Let people know what your looking for. Offer to work TFP (trade for photos, prints or on CD) with models, hair and makeup stylists, for practice and portfolio developement. You may or may not find models to work TFP for nudes, so you might want to offer some pay for nudes. You'll want to get releases from each person that you work with. Practice composition, lighting, and use every mode/function that your camera has. Work outdoors, morning, noon, and evening. Work indoors, with varying light sources. Make your camera an extension of you, so you dont have to over think a shot that presents itself suddenly. There are artistic photosites all over the web. Try to emulate their work, learn to recognise how they put a shot together, use light and shadow, props, locations, poses, etc... Do your own work. Dont go at it hap hazard. Write your ideas down, give some detail. It'll give your models an idea of what your looking for, and reading something will give them a better picture of whats expected. Let them offer suggetions, and work with you on projects. Better motivated models, better photos. Once you get your name out there, you'll have more people looking to pay you, and work with you. Dont mix business and pleasure, it'll keep drama to a minimum. |
