How do I get started and sell nude photography? |
I have taken pictures of females for their husbands/boyfriends with excellent results. However, I feel I need more instruction and would also like to display my pics. I also do pencil drawings of the pics. To display your pictures sign up to www.net-model.com but make sure you have their permission first though as they can easily sue you, however if you want to sell the photographs you will need them to sign a Model Release Form and make sure that it is agreed between the both of you. I would be extremely careful. There is a fine line and crossing it could have unpleasent consequences. Nude photography is a mixed bag because of pornography. personal opinion if you want to perfect your craft take a class. often community colleges will offer protrait or studio photography as a stand alone class. you might also want to take a lighting class if it's available. this will allow you to fine tune your photos and teach you about the finer things of portraiture. as far as selling them start charging people. there are many books and online resources that can give you guides as to selling your photos. they give great info about pricing, advertising, legal issues, etc. if you grow beyond a local operation try interning with a fashion magazine or even a local studio. it may not be nude photography but any professional experience will help. good luck! the biggest mistake I've seen is in lighting. take a class on lighting in photography. walk around a university art gallery and study posing, contrast, etc. I sometimes do nudes as well...you need to have the subjects permission to sell the image (usually if you have compensated the subject, it's ok) . The main thing about nudes is making sure they aren't blatently offensive (unless you are trying to provoke the viewer). The subject should be posed correctly, so study other photographers who have been sucessful with nudes and take notes...even look at foreign magazines like french vougue to see the shoots they do with nude models Yo can display the pictures, however you can not sell them if you do not have a model release from them; about pencil them, you have to change the facial likeness, otherwise you can be sued. I did (en still do occasionally) nude pix as a business. It is a really good field where I relaxed a lot. |
