Can I use any USB cable to transfer photos from my camera to my computer?

I am preparing for a trip to Malaysia and am taking my parents digital camera. We can not find the USB cable though. I have another USB cable at my apartment from a different brand camera... will it work? (granted it fits) I won't be going to my apartment for a few days so i need to know before then if we need to order a new one... I can't remember the brand of the other cable but the camera is an Olympus... Their website was of no help to me.

If it fits, it should work. Thankfully, SOME manufacturers used standardized cables, such as the mini-USB. If you end up having to pay for a new USB cable, consider buying a card reader instead. This will work with any camera you buy in the future, as well.

If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.

First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.

If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.

i had two different cameras and the one lead done both

I never use the USB to my camera my self I prefer just taking the memory card out and using a card reader. But to answer your question, I just compared my new camera to my old one and the USB ports are different and they are even the same brand. (Fuji) Sorry I can't tell about your brand.
