What is the best setting to use when trying to take pictures of the moon on a digital camera?

I have an Olympus 10MP cmaera with an 18-X zoom but can't seem to get a decent photo??

Manual setting, f11, shutter speed the reciprocal of your ISO setting, and zoom in as far as you can.

As you've probably already figured out, the problem with the moon is that it's so small. You'd need about a 50X zoom for it to take up a full picture.
Full moon: The moon is very bright, but against a very dark background. You need to focus on the moon, and set the exposure for a short amount of time. If you just let a camera do its automatic settings, the moon will come out as a bright dot. If you're camera doesn't have manual settings, you might be out of luck.
New moon: The moon isn't much brighter than the dark background. As long as you use a tripod and so on, this shouldn't be too hard at night. Don't bother during the day, because you'll just see the blue sky.
Partial moon: The lazy way is to do the same as you did for a full moon. If you really want results, take the same picture at different exposure times and combine them to make one of those newfangled high dynamic range photos.

Tripod, manual setting, spot metering, set the focus to infinity and play with the white balance to get the color you want.
