How to set up a digital camera for close-ups (<5 inches) --iso, asm, etc?

whats macro mode?

how to i turn macro mode on (olympus C-700)

can someone explain A/S/M, ISO, brackets, and WB? i am a novice

also please explain how to shoot in different sceanes/what effect you can get w/ changing settings

It's that top middle button on the back with the picture (icon) of a flower. It also has an icon of a square with a dot in the middle of it- which refers to spot metering.

But press it and you will see on the LCD (or EVF) the picture of the flower come up- then you know you're in macro mode.
