or what else? That's almost like asking a religious or political question. You'll have strong answers for each side.
It depends upon what type of digital camera you're looking for. In point & shoots, Canon & Olympus seem to be very strong, though Sony & Nikon supporters would disagree.
In the Digital SLR (DSLR), theres'a great divide between the professional models and the prosumer ones.
I use Nikon and love it. One of my brothers swears by Canon. Another brother raves about his Sony. Let me tell you, family get-togethers are pretty competitive!
The bottom line is, which camera is best suited for you, your goals, and your style? What type(s) of photography excite you? What are your hobbies or interests? How does each camera feel in your hands? Are the controls second-nature and the menu choices just what you'd design?
You wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without trying them on or get a stereo system without listening to it. Cameras are just as personal.
Here's just one source for comparisons. There are many more.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_came... Canon is a really good brand with low starting prices. I have a Canon A-series (A70) with the large display and the features are balanced for the novice to the semi-expert. There's enough creative controls, but yet simple enough for a kid to use. A great family camera. You can't go wrong with the A-series. CANON

Go here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/stats.as... and look at the second chart - the one that shows interest by brand name. The best brands are indeed the ones in the top part of the chart. Another good rule. Even if you don't buy from them, check with B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping). If B&H does not sell the brand you are looking at, don't bother buying that brand.
Personally, I find that I prefer Nikon for SLR's and Canon for Point and Shoot cameras. This is just a personal preference in the way each company approaches the products in those lines. It doesn't mean that one is better than the other. These are the top two brands at any level, though. Which one is better? Are you trying to start a fight or something?
Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you. NIKON SIR. Being a nikon user (nikonian) i would have to tell you nikon is the best, but to tell you the truth with all bias aside, nikon and canon are the two best SLR providers, if you are going with a point and shoot, canon is gonna steal the show. |
