Digital camera memory cards...?

how many pictures can you take with a olympus 32MB card please?

not a pro by any means, just for fun but i have a 1 GB card in my camera as there is nothing worse than running out of room on your memory card and having to choose which good pics to delete and which to save.

This depends on the quality of pictures that you have set on your camera. The higher the quality the less number of photos and vise versa the lower the quality the more

you can work this out ya self, you haven't said the rez of ya camera, but if its 2Meg you would be able to take 16. 16X2=32

2 things effect the file size; 1) resolution; 2) picture size.
In my experience you can get a perfectly good picture at low to medium resolution, and it would only be if you need to zoom in on a large scale that the highest resolution would benefit. Low to medium resolution should give good pictures for viewing on TV screen show via DVD player.
The really big pictures size will outsclae your pc screen, and will usually re-size to fit your TV screen without losing picture quality. 1024x768 is an adequate picture size for most viewing. Here it is the number of pixels that efffect the filesize.
Along with picture quality you have to consider if you will be sending pictures via e-mail. Even if you have broadband, sending 20 x 2MB pictures will seriously annoy someone if their internet connection is slow.
Taking both these into account, you should be able to get over 100 pictures on your 32MB card.
But look on the internet and you should be able to get a 1GB card for 拢10 or 拢20. then you will be able to take hundreds of really big, hi-res pictures.

It depends on the megapixels of your camera. If it is 3 MP, then you can take around 80-100 pictures of low resolution. The higher the
megapixles the lower the amount of total pictures.

You need to buy a larger card...because 32 MB might only allow up to 20 photos.(It was probably included free with your camera?).
I would suggest you buy a minimum card of 512MB-1GB.

BTW...you should always shoot at the highest possible quality/resolution...because why would you buy a camera and not use it's best available photo taking ability?

it depends on lots of things
it depends on the image size (that is in part determined by the camera sensor - often quoted as megapixels)
it depends on the compression method
it depends on the type of compression (some cameras have a native format which compresses smaller than JPEG
it also depends on the image you are taking... pictures with failry uniform colours can often compress into a smaller space

to give a rough idea
I have a camera which has a 4 megapixel sensor , it has three image quality settings (low (L) medium(M) high(H))
on 32Mb card it can take pictures the following sizes
2304 x 1728 14(H) 24(M) 34(L)
1600 x 1200 35(H) 55(M) 72(L)
1280 x 960 55(H) 85(M) 110(L)
640 x 480 150(H) 225(M) 300(L)
...in practise you can often take more photos than this

so the best thing to do is to look in the manual or on the website for your camera manufacturer... find the capabiliities of you camera. Most sites have fairly detailed documnentation that will tell you what it can do

Id agree with other comments, if you are going to use the camera then use the best appropriate size and quality... memory is fairly cheap (I think you can buy 1GB SD cards for around 拢10), but having bought Olympus you may be limitied. It always better to take a sightly larger image and crop it using photoediting software

the 3megapixel cameras and above can produce quite good pritned images, the smaller arrays not so good.

32mb is a starter card, just to practice. You really should buy a card with at least a 1gb capacity, especially if you take pictures in high resolution or RAW, take lots of photos, or are going on vacation and don't want to take a pocketful of memory cards.

By the way, Best Buy has 2gb cards on sale for less than the 1gb cards! My Nikon D70, on high resolution, can take more than 500 photos with this baby!
