How can I get the clearest, best (artistic perspective) photos from a simple digital camera?

I've got an olympus, and my shots are not always clean looking. How do I achieve different depths of field from a digital camera?

I don't know what settings you have on your Olympus. Some of them are pretty sophisticated and other models have only a minimum.
You need to be able to set the aperture and let the camera pick the shutter speed. The display should say something like 1/30 f/4. If you can figure out how to do that then a simple experiment will graphically demonstrate depth of field. Put the camera on a tripod, aim it down the length of a fence with the camera 4-6 feet away and the point of focus at about 10-12 feet. Take a pic at each available f/stop and see the difference they make. Adapt that info to your architectural pictures.
But, assuming that you're photographing buildings rather than architectural details, I would guess that the lack of sharpness in your images is more due to camera movement. Most people, including knowledgeable photographers, "punch" the shutter causing the camera to tip down during the exposure. Or the shutter speed just may be too slow for hand held exposures. Or a third possibility is that your camera doesn't have sufficient resolution for sharp photos. If you want crisp photos always use a tripod and get a camera capable of at least 8-10 mega-pixels.

OK, if you want good photos then your after a good lens which is the most important thing when buying a digital camera, not mexapixels as they arn't really important.

I would recommend Carl Ziess or the other brands. I have alot of experience with cameras and they are the best quality. If you want an olympus, then don't get a cheap one as they are not very good, olympus mid range priced ones are very good quality pictures so , all in all you will pay for what you get

The medium is not important.

Frame your shots with the eye of the artist. The camera can do the rest.

I also have an olympus camera and im impressed by the quality. I love it! Just mess around with the settings and see what you come up with. Try moving around more and capturing from different angles and distances. I just practice with mine and see what i get. Most of the time, im happy with them.
You may also have to adjust the flash settings and macro settings depending on when you take the pictures and the distance of the scene.

Good luck!
