Should digital cameras rattle??

I have bought a digital camera (Olympus 770sw) and when it is moved about something inside makes a rattling noise (like the is something loose).

I have been to several shops and the exact same cameras there make no noise whatsoever.

The shop assistants tell me its fine, but I don't understand why my camera would rattle yet no others of identical model do.

I've read somewehre that rattling is normal and is so that the camera knows how to orientate the pictures on screen. My camera however doesn't do this (i.e if I hold the camera vertically to take a person standing up, that person will by lyingdown on the screen after the picture has been taken) - so I eliminated this as a reason.

any suggestions? am taking the camera away for a year and do not want it to break whilst away!

No, it should not rattle. If it does, that means something is loose or came apart on the inside.

Sounds to me like something inside it broke off, It shouldn't be rattling! Take it back and demand it be fixed or replaced

I think by just asking the question you know the answer. I have 2 digital cameras and none rattle. Nor do the ones in the store that I pick up and experiment with.

I would guess that there's some dirt or debris inside - or even worse - a component that is loose or fell apart.

Either way, no digital camera should rattle and I think you should take a professional to look at it.

No this is not normal. Take it back to the store again. If the clerk tells you this is normal again, ask him to take out another camera of the exact same model and let you shake that one. I'll bet it won't rattle.

make sure the batteries are tight
some batteries are slightly smaller than others

no it should not rattle.when holding the camera vertically the person (lying down)is because the screen is oblong not square,if the camera was to keep the image upright you would get a smaller image in your viewing screen.hpe this helps
