im using olympus digital camera and i took out the memory card to transfer images to my computer using usb card reader.during reading, the windows explorer froze "not responding".i took out the card and place it in the camera again.when i turn it on,it says format the card? the same thing happens when i try with the computer.
what can i do and can i still get the pictures? if yes, how? you can still recover the images if you use a removable media image recovery program. It sounds like you are using Window 98se or Me. If you are then you need to install the drivers first for the CF card.
What happened. Sounds like you installed a new memory card in your camera with out formatting it first. If that is not the case and the memory card has been in use for a long time then the FAT table is corrupt. Then you need to fix the MBR and repair the FAT table. The easiest way to do this is a format in your computer, be sure that you select the "quick format". This will not overwrite the contents of the memory card. You can then recover the files with a program like I mentioned first. If you really don't care about the images then just reformat in you camera. That way your camera knows what it needs for file structure.
Now, in the off chance that you have purchased a memory card greater than 2Gigs and your camera only supports FAT and not FAT32 you are not going to be able to use the full memory size of the card. Since you did not mention the model of Olympus camera and the type/size of the memory card, this is pure speculation on my part. You can't. You will have to format the card to use the card properly again, and this means you will lose everything in the card. (Actually, the files are quite lost as of now.)
I would recommend using a usb cable to connect the camera to the computer instead. it will have a lesser chance of corrupting the memory card. |
