Digital camera acting strangely.?

It's an Olympus D-390 digital camera. Every time I turn it on, it starts beeping for about 30 seconds unless I turn it off again. It will not allow me to take pictures, turn on the Quick View, or do anything else, for that matter. The screen is black and refuses to cooperate. :( I thought about battery being low, but it's my brother's (who now lives across the country) and he didn't give us a charger. I have a charger for my iPod nano -- perhaps that would work? Hehehe.

That camera takes regular AA batteries so I would try switching those with new ones first. With that beeping and shutting off right away it is either that the batteries are low- or that the camera was dropped and that is why you have black screen. I will tell you that if it is not the batteries it it is not worth repairing as it is only a 2 megapixel camera and olympus would charge you about $125 to fix it- and when you can get a 5 or 6 megapixel for $149- it doesn't make any sense. Olympus repair costs get even worse if they find that you dropped it. Since it is only a 2 mega-pixel your brother probably won't mind too much.

It is most probably the battery. Can you take out the battery and replace it with some regular batteries, instead of the rechargables? Take it to a camera store, they will be happy to advise you. Don't use the wrong charger, though.
