Olympus E-510 or something more tranditional like the d40x? |
like the look of the olympus, but noticed the sensor demensions were smaller, how does this camera compare to the current batch of entry level SLRs?(cannon 400d etc) Found some reviews for you, the last review site being from people who bought it from Amazon. the only factor that can make a camera a SLR is its system of capturing the image not the sensor size or body size or anything else.in a SLR or Single lens reflex the light from the subject enters the main and only lens(that can be a group of simpler lenses) the arrives at the shutter that is a mirror standing 45 degree to the lens axis.this mirror reflects the light to pentagonal pyramids in the visor(the place that you put your eye there and see the subject) .when you press the release button the mirror bend upward and let the light to arrive at the sensor at the back of it.and the image captures.it is the same for film or digital SLR's.but in a compact camera there are two different lenses, one is the way that you can see the subject through and the other one focus the light on the sensor.in other words the image that you see is a little bit different from the image that captures by the sensor, also there isn't a shutter in a compact camera or the sensor is just at the back of the lens and when you press the release button you actually turn a key on that lets the electricity goes through the sensor and activate it,then image captures.if you are a pro in photography or interested so and you can afford $2000 buy a nikon D80 and a 18-200 vr nikkor lens,if you have around $1000 buy nikon d40 or its 10mp twin brother d40x and 18-200 or 55-200 lens.but if you are a beginner and don't want to confuse yourself with lenses, flashes and filters buy canon S5IS a slr-like 8mp,12x zoom camera,or fuji s9000. |
