What are pixels and resolution?

Im doing a project called "A Picture is worth a Thousand Words" So right now working the research part. Then I would have to take some pictures of any theme i choose using the 10 tips for taking a good photo.
Also could you give me information about the specifications of the Olympus Camera(8.0 megapixels.

Thanks so much for your help!

A pixel is a 'dot'. It's short for 'picture element'. Digital pictures are nothing more than a collection of these dots, each one color. If you zoom in on a picture enough you can see the dots.

More dots is more resolution, it means you can enlarge the picture or look at it closer without seeing all the individual dots.
8 megapixels is 8 million of these dots, which is plenty.

Digital cameras work all pretty much about the same. I will spare you the details. 8^)

First turn the camera on. Sometimes there is a switch with two positions, one has an icon of a camera--this is for taking pictures. The other position is for viewing pictures.

Usually there is a knob with various 'modes'. You want 'Auto' mode. Sometimes there are 'icons' of mountains (for far away), trees (for middle distance) and a face (for close up), so you can choose whichever is appropriate.

Then you look through the viewfinder and use the zoom control to compose the picture.

Then you press the shutter button, but only gently, only halfway. This makes the camera focus. Then push it the rest of the way to take the picture.

If you have the actual model number of the camera, you can go to Olympus's website and download the manual, which will give you lots more detail, of course. But usually there is a 'getting started' section that tells you all you really need to know without getting into -real- detail. Most cameras have so many modes and features that you really need to read the manual to use all of them. But just to take pictures is usually very simple.
