Buying reconditioned digital cameras.. smart or not?

I've had my eye on a pink Olympus, 8MP 5x Optical Zoom digital camera, and I recently spotted it on ebay for an inexpensive price. This camera is reconditioned it states. I do not have experience with buying reconditioned items, is it worth the money to buy something reconditioned? Is it a good buy?

Hi J. I don't know if this will answer your questions but I am wondering if you mean reconditioned or refurbished? I had those exact same questions some time ago. I was considering buying a professional model Canon digital from a camera shop. The guy told me it was refurbished and just sent back to him, so it had not been used since coming back from Canon. I am like you.... wondering if this is a good deal or a future problem, so I decided to phone Canon. They were great!!! They asked for the serial number of the camera and came back to tell me what had been done to the camera, exactly when, the cost of the repair... everything. When I asked just what refurbished meant, the repair tech told me that they bring the camera back to "new camera specifications". It was just like new again. I am certain that he had no reason to deceive me since he was not involved in the sale of it. I decided to go ahead and buy it as it was a good deal. So far.... many months later... no problems. I work at a camera repair facility and our repair techs told me the same thing... but I wanted to be sure and took it to the horse's mouth. Glad that I did and I hope it helps you decide if you want it. Piece of advice? You can call Olympus and ask the question for yourself.

Sorry but it is not smart to buy a highly technical gadget that has been fixed. And especially on ebay. You get what you see without any warranties. There are very tiny parts in it that require factory adjustments or repairs. And this camera has been used in an environment or handling that you dont know. Probably, it was dropped. There could be many other tiny parts that could fail in the future. So my advise is buy a new one that suits your budget. There are so many models in the market.

very smart
all of the problems are already fixed
