Problem with camera?

I recently received a Kodak EasyShare 8.1 mega pixel camera, model M893 IS. For the price of the camera I am very disappointed in it. I find it fun to be able to take the pictures and videos, but quality wise even pictures in perfect lighting seem poorer quality than our old olympus that is over ten years old. I'm a little confused since the reviews were pretty good, the sales person recommended it as a good camera, and you would think anything would be better than such an old camera. Any suggestions on how to improve quality? Also, I noted something that could possibly be the problem I'm not sure. The actual lense is off center. Like all the pictures show the circle that the lense is in and then the square where it actually opens...or shutter or whatever it's called, perfectly centered. On my camera, this part is lower, and off center. Could this effect picture quality...and is this a fault that would warrant and exchange in cameras?

Is it possible to choose the resolution of your pictures? When you look at them on your computer screen do they appear small? You may not be taking 8.1MP images. I could not find that setting in your manual. Mine is under Function while camera is on and ready to take a picture. Perhaps you can find it on yours.
I once took tiny pictures on vacation and I vowed to double check the resolution each day of use. Set it to L for large and perhaps S for superfine.

It does sound like your shutter is broken. I had a Nikon that this happened to. I would take it back to the store and ask them to check that in the camera department. Perhaps if it is broken they will offer to just give you a new one on the spot.
