I know NOTHING about my digital camera! Help?

I got a brand new digital camera from my mom's friend for free. It's an Olympus with 4.0 magapixel and it's works just fine but all she gave me was the camera so I don't know what kind of card/chip to get for it and I don't know how to get those pictures on the computer. Will I need to get a cord for it?

Model NO.D-545 ZOOM

It depends on what camera you have (give us a model name and number to be more specific).

If your camera can take memory cards it'll most likely be xD-Picture Cards, unless the camera is REALLY old. You can either get a cord if you can find one or a card reader take reads whatever card you're using now.

Give us a model name and number so that I can be more specific. Olympus made more than one 4 MP camera.

Follow-up:
Ok, your D-545Z has 14MB of internal memory and has a memory slot for xD-Picture Cards.

If you've been taking pictures without a memory card they're saved to the internal memory. In this case, you'd need the cord for the camera to transfer the pictures to your computer. These are available off of eBay for $5-6:

Or if you're a purist, Olympus sells the same cable for $29.99 here:

If you buy and use a xD card, you can transfer the pictures to the computer using the very same cable. Or, if you prefer, you can use a seperate card reader that accepts xD cards.

A 1 GB xD-Picture Card can store about 820 4-megapixel images. Both Fujifilm and Olympus manufacture these cards -- a 1 GB card costs about $17 and a 2 GB card costs about $30. If you ever plan on upgrading to a newer Olympus camera you may want to consider purchasing the 2 GB card. No rush though: here today, here tomorrow -- 1 GB is more than enough for the D-545.

Here's a website where you can download, for free, the Advanced Manual, Basic Manual, and Quick Start Guide.

And if you need the software, here it is.

I hope this helps.

I want to add to "What?"'s answer.
I recommend a card reader, not a cable because i have found the cables eventually break. Also, the card readers just work as an external drive, but in my experience, the camera cables do not.
