How can I take photos of lightning?

I need a simple way to take good pictures of lightning
My camera is an Olympus FE220 digital camera

I'd like to point you to a question I answered a while ago, which among other things explains how to take a lightning shot:

Feel free to follow the link and read the entire answer if you wish, or just take a look at a relevant part I copied below:

The technique to take a picture of lightning is this:

- Choose a location with minimum light pollution. Ideally none. That is a completely dark place, unless you want to shoot a lightning over a city. Still set your camera in a dark place facing the city lights. Don't set it up on a lighted street. You don't want that light around.
- Make sure you have some escape or cover up plan for when it starts raining, as it may rain quite suddenly if you're about to photograph a lightning, and you're over there with all that expensive equipment!
- Get a camera (it does not have to be an SLR, but it better be, I'll explain why in a second), put it on a steady tripod. Point it towards the direction where you expect the lightning to strike.
- Now the tricky part: start shooting. You'd have to guess the aperture, here digital camera is going to be helpful, because it will give you instant feedback. If you make it too wide you can overexpose, if you make it too narrow, the lightning itself will probably come out anyway, as it's VERY bright, but you'll miss out on surroundings. Use a cable release, or remote or in worst case self timer to trigger the shutter. If you're using cable release - put it on bulb, otherwise select some long exposure. 10 seconds or more, depending on type of camera. Once the lightning struk, close the shutter if you're on bulb, otherwise let it finish the exposure. That's it.... keep shooting until you catch one...

Good luck!
LEM.

use the video setting on your camera... make a video of all lightning... once your done go to your computer and upload the video.. when you see a good picture pause the video and take that part of the video and it will be a picture :)

hope i helped

Adjust the shutter speed as high as you can and the timing and go out and take TON!
and hopefully youll get a great shot with it.

look in your manual and try to figure out how to adjust your shutterspeed. The faster, the better.

rly rly good timing
