For example, "I'd like a camcorder that will be good for shooting my family vacation and showing it to people when I get home;" or "I'd like a camcorder, with a microphone jack, that I can use to make short films by editing them with my computer."
Every camcorder is good...for the uses it's been built for.
For example, DVD isn't great if you want to edit on a computer, but it's good if you want to be able to show it at home, or on other people's DVD players. This camera also doesn't have a microphone jack or a headphone jack. Furthermore, it has no manual-focus option.
However, it has line-in recording, which is good for recording things from other sources. It has a built-in light, good for indoor or low-light shooting, or to brighten up a face outdoors as well. A 32x optical zoom is pretty good for this price range, and the optical image stabilization that this camera has is not found too often on other cameras in this price range. This machine also does give you a few good manual controls for when certain situations call for them.
So, think about what you need the camera for, and compare it with what this camera will give you. That's the best advice I can give! seller has a good rating, I'm always scared about e-bay. Ask if it is a "Grey market" product. As in make sure it is not being sold in the incorrect market.
Example Given: A European camcorder being sold in America will not have a plug that will fit into American outlets.
So you can not charge battery with out an adapter/power amp converted. Also for any warranty repairs you might have to export out of your country to get any warranty work done.
