Which Camera?

I'm looking to buy a new digital camera. I want something with a good zoom, under $400, great picture quality, good at night, good quality, easy to navigate, and great for action pictures.

The two cameras I'm looking at are the Sony DSC-H7 and the and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8.

Based on the above criteria, which one would you buy?

I can't speak on the Sony, but I have the Panasonic Lumix. It took me awhile to figure some of the more advanced options out (and there are still so many more to try), but after playing around with it I got them down pretty well.It was easier to experiment with the camera myself than to understand what the directions were saying. It took really great pictures of fireworks on the 4th of July (with the 'fireworks' scene mode), and the pictures of the kids with their sparklers came out very clear. The sports scene mode does pretty well for the action shots especially if you use it with the 'shutter-aperture' option. It sounds a little confusing, but if I could figure it out - just a casual take pictures of family and friends for memories type person - I think anybody could. I like the big viewing screen on the back to preview your pictures with. And, I like that you can recharge the battery instead of having to purchase more. I hope this helps a little. Good luck!

I very much like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8, however, the cost of the proprietary battery seems rather high. Go for it!
