Leica or Panasonic?

I need a small digital camera. The two I like are Lumix FX-35 or Leica D-Lux 3
Does anyone know what is the better of the two?

The Leica D-LUX3 is a rebranded Panasonic Lumix DMC LX2. These cameras have the same image quality when you shoot in RAW, but the Leica produces slightly better jpg files due to better in-camera conversion software.

The Panasonic Lumix FX35 is the latest incarnation of a different line. The original FX01 was rebranded as the Leica C-LUX1 but it seems that Leica gave up on this line under its own name after 2006. Or maybe a C-LUX2 is in the works?

For me, it would be a toss up between the two Panasonic models. I'd probably get the newer FX35.

As for the D-LUX3, I'd never consider it. This is a $600 point & shoot. For that price you can get a Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel XTi dSLR camera. Or if you want a Leica, get a Leica; not a Panasonic point & shoot that's dressed up to *look* like a great camera (which the Leica rangefinders certainly are).
