I have a Panasonic VDR d100 and I can not get the video off of the camera to my PC. Can any one help?

Good question! You are not alone; I too have the VDR-D100, and well, first of all, the VDR-D100 is a mini DVD camcorder. You, me, and everyone else with DVD camcorders are struggling with the same problem of uploading footage from DVDs to edit and/ or save in the computer. The thing is, most programs are made for the more common miniDV camcorders, and more and more are made for AVCHD camcorders. However, I discovered the solution in a program developed by ULEAD. My version is the Ulead Movie Factory, but I recommend the Ulead Video Studio, as you can create .avi files, rather than just burn projects to DVD. With .avi files, you can save the movie to your computer, as well as to a CD, DVD, flash drive, or pretty much anything, so it is more flexible.

Here are the steps (please consider that these are the directions to the Movie Factory, so if you get the Ulead Studio Studio, expect it to vary slightly, probably not too much though)

1) First, it is best to finalize the DVD before editing. This can be done on any type (-R, RW, even RAM I believ, but I have never tried it on RAMs).
-in order to finalize, you must put the DVD into the camcorder and hook it up to its A/C adapter (the wall plug). Find the finalizing but and set your camcorder down (shaking it while finalize may disrupt the process)

2) Eject the DVD from the camcorder and put it into the E-Drive of the computer (the CD/DVD drive)

3) launch Ulead. Creating a new project

4) Once the program opens and you have your basic editing window (with a timeline and all), look for a button that says something like, "import from video DVD", which will allow you to transfer your footage from the DVD to the program, where you can edit.

5) Once you are finished editing, you'll want to export your movie, creating an .avi file, which turns the project file into a standard video file

Hope that wasn't too confusing. I know it seems like a hassel, but its not too bad. Ulead is quite a good program, and its very inexpensive. You can explore other options, but the only one I have found so far to support DVD formats is the Ulead systems. I hope that helps, and good luck!!!

Video Editing
for starters, free Windows Movie Maker* (XP-wmm2 & Vista-wmm6) provides simple & easy way to learn the ropes < click help for details>. Upgrade to intermediate video editing applications accdg. to need & skill level

Unfortunately, wmmaker does not support DVD .vob files. Convert the vob files to avi or wmv first before import to wmm.
Try Prism or Kates (free)
- google, download and open
- set output pc folder for converted files
- set output format/resolution (avi or wmv)
- insert FINALIZED dvd disc to pc drive
- add .vob files (from DvD folder/ Video_TS)
- click convert... converted files are saved to pc folder

Open wmmaker
video editing process- XP/wmm2
>>> open wmm- start/all programs/wmm->TASK pane
1. Import avi or wmv video files, (plus music, pics)
2. Edit- drag/drop video files->timeline & enhance w/effects, transition, music & titles
3. Finish (render)- save Movie file- ok for upload, also save Project .msmmw file
4. Share-burn to CD (if DvD, use DvD authoring app, e.g.,DvD Flick, Nero, etc.)

For Vista/wmm6, t鈥檌s similar: Import/ Edit/ Publish/ WindowsDVD or Nero for authoring
