Are PENTAX digital cameras good?

Pentax actualy has one of the sharpest prime lenses out there (31mm Limited) and have been producing excellent consumer and advanced hobbyist cameras for decades (over 60yrs). Just recently introduced the K10D which is a very aggressive attack on the normal "Big Boys" of Canon/Nikon.

yea especially if youre first getting into photography. i took photography at a community college and started off with a pentax k-1000 camera. that shots will come out as good as a nikon if you use it correctly.

Yes they are. I own a Pentax istD. I love this camera. It is 6.1 mega-pixels and that is good for what I do.

As a beginners Camera, Yes. but if you have never taken photographs before, I would suggest going down to your local pawn shop or used camera shop for and older 35 mm. This will help you develop skills and train you for that digital camera. Agreed a "Dig Cam" maybe easier, but you should learn how to use f-stop, iso, framing images, etc. Basically your just buying a very excessive toy that you point and shoot with no knowledge of how to really capture that image... or does it matter.

I've been using Pentax cameras for decades. Started with an ME super 35mm in the early 1980's. When my son took it to school for photography class, and dropped it on it's head on a concrete floor, and killed it, I went on to e-bay, and found another one, that I used for several years. I've always felt that they were very well built reliable cameras. I have an *ist Ds 6.1 meg, and my wife shoots a K100d 6.1 meg. My opinion of their quality is still the same. I'm saving up for a K10d now.

I owned only Pentax film camera (pretty much) but I never thought their digital cameras were quite on the same page as Nikon and Canon. They have really jumped into the fire, though. Pentax is a conservative company and I guess it takes them a while to bring something out.

My brother has owned 2 Pentax point and shoot cameras (I don't know the models.) and he has been so happy with the results that it seems like I will not be able to talk him out of buying a Pentax DSLR, even though I am trying to lure him with the prospects of trying out some of my Nikon lenses. I guess that's saying something good for them.
