Beginner film cameras?

What are some good beginner film cameras.
Im looking at the Pentax k1000 but are there any others i should be aware of?

Yes! It's a buyer's market for film cameras. In fact for the same price as the K1000... you can get the MUCH nicer Nikon FM (all manual, like the K1000), or the FE (all manual except for the option of aperture priority auto exposure).

The Nikon FM/FE offers a lot over the K1000 (the bottom end model when it came out), including depth of field preview (important if you understand it), a self timer, faster top shutter speed, faster flash synch speed and the Nikon F lens mount that works with most lenses made from 1959 to today. (except type G and type DX).

Another good used Nikon value is the FG, it has a smaller, more compact body than the FM/FE, adds fully automatic exposure (P mode) but deletes the depth of field preview. It likely can be had cheaper than any of the other models discussed.

The Pentax has similar advantages as far as the lens mount... the K mount has remained relatively unchanged as well, but their DSLRs aren't nearly as common as the Nikons. Besides, like I already said the K1000 body is too expensive for what it is, and as hard as it would have been to believe when it was released as the cheapest model in the pentax line back in the 70s your actually paying for the name!!!

If you want a NEW manual SLR, you can't beat the Nikon FM10: it's a bit cheaper made than the original FM (plastic instead of metal), but it is brand NEW and an excellent value: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controll...

Nikon and Canon SLR film cameras are the best. You should get a good second hand one. I don't think they make new film cameras anymore.

I use an N90 and I really like it solid build and well the AA last forever and I have a Motor Drive+Battery holder and the thing never dies. Highly recommend the N series from Nikon.

I still use my nikon f90, (exactly the same as n90) and I love it. It's very user friendly, built like a tank and takes razor sharp pics. You can get some really good deals on ebay as lots of people are going digital. I use a d80 too but I still love film. I recently picked up a great little f60 on ebay for less than $30.00(with lens ). Nikons are built to last so you can't go wrong picking up a good used one.

If it is a K-mount lens, yes. Knowing what film camera you used it on would be helpful.
