Broken LCD on Camera?

Broken Viewfinder on Camera?
Something is wrong with my Pentax Optio M20. I think the problem was caused by cold exposure but im not sure. The LCD is acting quite odd. Whn it is turned off,you can see faint slashes inside the LCD that are darker than the majority of it, and when it is turned on, a white field covers the entire LCD except for a small portion at the bottom. It still Takes pictures perfectly and all its other funtions work, you just cant see what your taking a picture of. Does anyone know what could have cause this problem, if it is fixable, and how much it would cost to fix? Do I have to buy a new camera?

Definitely sounds like the LCD display is broken if it looks funny when it's turned off. I've heard of people getting replacement displays for around $50.00 or so and installing them themselves. You might want to give it a shot if you're handy. You should be able to find a number for parts and service on the Pentax web site. Companies will usually sell consumers parts if they can clearly communicate what they need. LCD display for an Optio M20 is pretty easy... See if you can remove the old one and feel confident about installing a new one... What have you really got to lose?

If you can't do it yourself, the repair would probably run $100.00 or so and I'd just replace the whole camera. The new Canon A580 looks nice... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
