Camera Flashes -- Pentax?

OK so ...

i have a pentax k100d and im loking to buy a vivitar 285hv flash... it shoud work ... right? i need a couple answers cause im pretty sure it will work...

thanks

Before you buy ...

Check what the safe trigger voltage for your camera is. Usually no more that 12v is recommended (6v on Canons) for DSLR cameras.

Then check the trigger voltage that the 285HV uses ...if it is over the design voltage of your cameras hot-shoe, then you are in jeopardy of frying your cameras electronics ...something NOT covered by any camera's warranty

To add to fhotoace's answer, if you find the flash does have excessive hot shoe voltage, you can place a Wein Safe Sync between the hot shoe and flash to lower the voltage to a safe level for your camera. Would not hurt a thing to use it anyway just to be on the safe side.

Since your camera has P-TTL (Off-Sensor Flash Metering) you should consider one of the flash units offered by Pentax. This will ensure full compatibility between your camera and flash. The Vivitar 285 should work with the camera (taking into consideration the precautions already noted) but you'll have fewer options with it.
