NYU Chances HELP!? |
Hello- I am hoping to transfer to NYU next year. I am a college freshman and would like to study journalism at the NYU College of Arts and Sciences. Here are my stats: SATS - 620 Verbal, 670 Writing, 510 Math, 11/12 on Essay GPA - 3.75 (College, Four-Year Private University), 3.5 (High School) - Both out-of-state Extra - Photo Editor/Writer at College Paper, Co-Coordinator of Gay/Straight Alliance, TV Station Segment Editor, Italian Club, Film Society, HS Newspaper, Teacher's Assistant (Twice), Scrabble Club Coordinator, Guitar Lessons, 30 hr/week job for one year, Summer Course, Set photographer for movie shoot. Important - Took AP's that my school offered, and Gifted/Talented and Honors courses for all four years with A's and B's. Thanks for your help!!!! I applied to NYU as a freshman this year and I got in. I also know a lot of people who got in and a few who got rejected, so I guess this may qualify me to help you out in some form. :D Your SAT scores are good for NYU so are your GPAs from high school and college. I'm assuming these are unweighted GPAs. I know people who applied who had over 100 points higher on each of SAT the subject areas than you, myself included, so maybe this may work against you. Have you considered taking the SAT again? If you are, the Kaplan book is really really great. You have a lot of extra curricular activities, which is great, so that will really help you. This can also help you get an upper hand over those who may have higher stats. You took APs and you were in an accelerated program, which is good. I think you're a great candidate for NYU. I don't know how their transfer admission works there and I don't know how selective it may be, but I know that, for freshman admissions you'd be in for sure. Good luck! why don't you just apply to harvard... or better yet oxford with those great grades..... just apply and you will get in..... guarnteed I think you definately have a good chance... I'm a high-school senior, and I got into NYU (into Arts and Sciences) this year. My stats were pretty similar to yours: slightly higher SAT scores (670CR ,720W ,680M, I think), and a slightly higher GPA (3.7ish, but also my school doesn't weight grades, so it could have been higher). Your ec's look really good, and the fact that you took hard courses looks good, too. I know that I took as many honors/AP's as I could, but not every single one that was offered. I really wasn't expecting to get in, and so it was a great, happy shock when I did, and I'm sure you will, too. Good luck, NYU is an awsome school! |
