How do I reference color photos for a gallery exhibition?

I will be displaying my photos in a gallery and am allowed an 8.5x11 sheet for my bio/artists statement and another sheet to reference the photos (i.e. name, materials, size, etc). All are color prints that are untitled, the same size, and were taken at the same place, so in essence this sheet would just be the same thing for each photo. Any guidance as to what this reference sheet should say without being too repetitive?

You really don't have much choice, then, do you? It is what it is.

I like Ryan's idea of adding a bit about your intent, etc., when making the shot.

I just got done doing the same thing. Fortunately for the readers, I used 5 or 6 different cameras over a 30 year period, so it's not horribly repetitious, but I also made up little cards that will be diplayed by each photo. They have the obligatory "vital information," but I added a few lines about what was going on or something about the subject that would explain why I took the picture.

What use are they making of this info? Are your sheets going to get stuck on the wall, or was the gallery planning on making a tag for each image from the info on the second sheet? Talk with whoever is hanging the show, maybe get one copy of your description for each cluster or wall of pics. Then you can be more detailed (if you want to be).

You might just have to go with repitition for the exhibit.

Aside from your name, any trademark you might use for identification, the camera model/lens combo, the only other thing to list would be thoughts and intent of the shot at the time of the shot, etc...

If they are from the same time period, its liable to be a lot of the same ol, same ol.

I'm a professional painter, and it's paintings that i exhibit, but the principle is the same.

Unless I am really pushed for time, I do up an "Artist's Statement" for each work. What goes in it depends on the image but it varies from factual information to inspiration.
You could call yours "Photographer's Statement". Buyers like them and from my experience it increases sales, especially if you can pull some inspiration out of the hat.

They exhibit a lot of photography in our galleries and many of the photographers do this, although they don't usually put "Photographer's statement", they just write the blurb.

Best to ask the gallery staff, they will have guidlines and preferences, and can tell you what is expected. Each Gallery is different.
