How can I offer avatars to users on my website?

I have a website where people come to network. Sometimes they upload a photo and sometimes they do not. Is there any kind of software I can use to offer users on my site to select an avatar for themself? I'd like to offer this service but I don't know where I can buy a gallery of avatars or software for users to create avatars . . . ? Anyone have any experience with this?

The fact that you need this list of avatars to incorporate with your networkin web site requires some server side technology (i.e. ColdFusion, ASP .Net, PHP, JSP, ...etc.) to do so. You will need to use this technology to create logic to allow your users to select an avatar. As far as galleries of avatars though, maybe you can try those emoticons web sites to see if you can use their lists.
