Best way to sell artwork? Who are the best people to contact? |
Basically I am a photographer. My Website is a joint portfolio with a friend www.archedroof.com . After we started taking pictures we started winning awards and honourable mentions all over the place for our works. We decided to join forces and sell our photo's. It's amazing to hear all of the great comments, people really love some of our work. We sell our prints for 拢45 mounted and 拢65 mounted and our outlet is either the Internet or what I am doing right now - A small makeshift gallery in Gunwharf Quays Portsmouth. We limit all of our prints to 150 and make sure they are all signed. Where do I go from here? Is it possible for a photographer to be 'discovered' or do we have to climb the ladder the hard way. TIA Sam. Put a gallery show together in a book and shop it to other local galleries with high traffic who display photography. Also look up any photography/art clubs in your area and network. Keep entering national shows. The ones you place in may publish you in their catalogs. Getting published helps a lot for name and reputation. Do not sell your work cheaply to make a buck. People do not respect or value what they can get for almost nothing. You have to market your own work. No one will do it for you. And the ones that do will take a large chunk of your profits. Seek legal counsel on how best to protect your work from others taking credits and rights to your work. I hope this all helps, it's from many years of trial and error.
