Does having a high payroll really make good teams? |
here is a list by Si.com http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multime... surprisingly the royals are on it. nope.........look at the A's and Twins......... Not necessarily, look at the Yankees this year, they are doing terrible. But the Red Sox and the Mets have a high payroll and are doing great. Not necessarily but it helps. i.e. mets, boston but doesn't always equal success. i.e. yankees, dodgers Having smart people works equally as well. i.e. twins, A's i say yes to this the more money you have the more you can make trades and pursue the free agent market that means you could get a couple of big players to sign and then build the rest of your team around them players like it when a team has money because that means they could be willing to get more players and make their team better just take the yankees for example here they have a 200 million$ payrole so that allows them to explore the free agent market and get new players the downside of this is you could invest in a player that is a total bust. you then might relize it was a waste of your teams money and regret the decision you made Being a Dodger fan, you should know the answer to that question. It's "no". Isn't that crazy that just 17 years ago the Royals had the highest payroll with $23.9 million, you could get that whole team for A-Rod. But to answer your question, no. High payrolls does not necessarily make a good team, and a low payroll doesn't make a bad team. The highest and lowest payroll teams in the league are in a dead heat for last place in the AL East right now. The Twins are consistently good with a payroll in the bottom half of the league, while it always seems that only 2 or 3 of the top ten spending teams make the playoffs each year. Look at the Yankees this year. |
