I have a big problem now and need serious help; a friend of mine has windows vista and i have xp, need help?

he sent me some pictures thru his photo gallery to me and now when i turn on my computer, display says photo gallery trying to install. i need some sort of cd. but i dont want it on my computer-i have tried to delete it but it wont go away. i have to use the task manager every time it comes up. what can i do to get rid of this stupid thing. i have my own program of photos. please help as it has slowed my computer down.

Have you checked with him to make certain he indeed sent them, and not some malware that used his email address as a smokescreen to get you to install it?

If he did send it, you might try removing it with Add or Remove programs:

1. Click on the Start->Control Panel menu item.
2. Click on Add or Remove Programs.
3. When the program list comes up, look for the photo gallery program in it.
4. If you find it, click the Remove or Change/Remove button and keep your fingers crossed.

If he did NOT send it, you may well have some malware on your machine. Run your anti-virus (it's updated, isn't it?). You might also get copies of Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D (they're free), install them, update them and run them.

If any of the above find something but don't seem to be able to get rid of it, try running them in Safe Mode.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.
2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key
3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.
4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. You may have to log in as Administrator to delete the bad files.
5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Good luck. Source(s): Ad-Aware SE (free): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
