I would like to go into clinical or counseling, planning to go into grad school after this BA degree.
Is it actually a benefit to have one, or could I just take whatever electives suit my fancy plus some more psychology courses?
It would be cool to have a minor, but it might be nice for once just to take whatever the hell I want with my electives you know? Kinda tired of having to follow a plan for everything, the only "elective" I had up till now that was just for me was B&W Photography.
So if a minor is no real benefit, I would love to know. If it is... I'm thinking English, Philosphy, Gender Studies, or Art. I think I might enjoy Philosophy, I took a few courses back at community college. It really depends on your career goals, but to most employers in the field of counseling they really only care about your credentials. The minor may help if you were to do marketing, PR, or management work with your company. I feel there are many benefits for personal enrichment, but not so much marketability in the work force, form my experience. I too love philosophy, and the teachings of many of the philosophers are assets to me daily as a counselor. I hope this helps, and do whatever you feel fits your personal goals for growth. You may have to take some specific courses for a minor that seem redundant or taxing on your focus as well, best of luck. |
