Taking photos in nyc? suggestions on photographers?

First while I am not pro I am not just someone snapping shots.
I have taken 3 college level photography courses & have done pretty well taking photos of my brother and sister.

I am going "back"(I have lived there before) to NYC for a few days, and I am looking for news ideas on taking photos (black and white & color if that matters) of the city that aren't typical tourist photos, but that are obvious of NYC....

Does anyone know of any accomplished photographs or artistic photos of NYC? they can refer me so I have some good ideas in mind... techniques or ways to keep in mind are also useful.
