*SoulEyes Photography>>>Photography Courses

There are dance classes, art classes, martial arts, gymnastics, etc..., for kids/young people...?

In your area, are there any photography classes that offer structured, courses for those under college age, aside from parks and rec, etc... ??

Have you heard of any, anywhere? Do you think it would be a worthy venture for a pro or experienced hobbyist.

Local art school offers youngster classes.

The photoclub I used to belong to worked in conjunction with the City Parks and Recreation to offer such a class. They didn't have much success because a lot of people in the photo club were just beginners themselves and didn't feel qualified....or those that were qualified(other than a few of us) didn't want to volunteer.

If you are asking, is it a worth while business venture...probably...but I don't know if your area could sustain something like that full time. It might be a part time or seasonal thing at first.

If you see a niche in the market, go for it.

Yup...in my neighbourhood there's a Visual Arts Centre (community art gallery) that offers summer photography workshops for young peeps.

It's not well attended, though, because the instructor is a bit old school and stuffy (drags out his Speed Graphic and talks about the Good Old Days).

I'll bet a hip digital guy could command a good audience with some flair and presentation style...in my experience municipalities are definitely game for this stuff.

HTH...just my 2 centavos.

I've seen a few.
At my dance school there is a lady who comes in to teach private/small group lessons for photography. So she uses the dance school to advertise and meet, I'm not sure what they do in the class though. (usually upper elementary/middle school students)

Also, I know there is a lady in our downtown area that advertises through our Art's Council and school art teachers and teaches one big group lesson a week. (usually pre-K through elementary)

And, there is a man downtown that owns a photo supply/book shop. He teaches private lessons out of his shop. (usually Highschool through college)

Those are the different ways I have seen.

I think it would be a great thing to start for children of all ages. I hope I have given you some ideas for advertising/venues.

The middle school in our town has five weeks courses in the winter for kids 1st to 8th grade called Winter Workshop. Each course is geared towards an age group and I believe the photography is grade 6 to 8. Both my kids took it when young and loved it.

We've run karate classes for 26 years.Just realised that wasn't actually part of the question.. doh!

There are no decent photography classes around here.
Camera House offered very basic digital classes, but I spent the entire time watching the teacher helping confused old ladies twiddle their buttons, so I got very little out of it. There is nothing for the kids and younger ones, I looked into that for a family member.. to no avail.
