IS Profotlio I a good class to take in high school if you're interested in pursuing a career in Photography

I'm currently a junior in High school.I've chosen my electives and classes for next year (Senior) year.I am not 100% sure what I would like to study after High School but, photography is my biggest passion so I would strive to succeed in that area.

These were my electives for my Senior Year class:
Photography level 2 (Currently taking Photography 1)
Web Design
and Portfolio 1.

- Portfolio I 1.0 Credit
Graduation Credit for Fine Arts
The purpose of this course is to give the students an introduction to the comprehension and understanding of quality,
concentration and breadth of art. The content should include, but not be limited to, the introduction to development of a
portfolio which reflects an understanding of the elements of designing varied forms of expression; the perception and
response to the qualities of art found throughout history; the valuing of art as an important realm of human experience;
the production of original and imaginative works of art; the history of art and its relationship to other processes and
periods; and the criterion for making and justifying judgments about the aesthetic merit and qualities of works of art.

Will taking this class help me develop within making my own Portfolio in my photography career? Did I make a good decision choosing it?

Perhaps,I'll have to find out on my own.

well portfolios are very important. your work will speak for you but the presentation really make it stand out and tells people about how professional you are and how serious you are about your work.
I took a lot of traditional and graphic arts classes which all required portfolios. it was pretty difficult for me to start developing decent portfolios. they would always be sloppy and rushed.

i'm beginning to see the value in them finally (4 yrs older than you, so thats a junior in college) i think it will benefit you. everyone must show portfolio so it is just another edge for you to be able to develop a good one.

Good choice.
