Careers advice...please?

Mkay so I'm leaving to go to college this year (I'm 16).
At college, we study 4 subjects.

Now these are the "definite" for subjects I want to take:
- Photography
-Graphics
-Psychology
-Business studies
-Media studies

But I can only take 4. I would also like to take English to improve my writing skills, but I'm hoping some other courses I take would be able to aid that.... But the question is, I need to drop a subject. Which one? My careers adviser at school said Psychology because that doesnt "fit in" with the other subjects, but I really really like psychology.

If you have taken any of these subjects or know anyone who has, please tell me what they were like!

Yes, and that is why I'm predicted an A grade in my english exam. -_-

Don't drop psychology. That is an excellent educational background to have on your resume. It will also help you when you are done with college and are in the workplace.

You can learn alot about photography on-line. I would drop that class first. The others are harder to learn about on your own.

I would drop psychology.

You can't just improve your writing skills by studying. You have to be born with the gift of writing, it is not something that can be simply "learned".

Just because you have good grades doesn't mean you're a good writer.

I didn't say you're not a good writer, I haven't heard your work, but just because you get good grades in school doesn't make you intelligent or a good writer.

Insults like the one you just expressed are a sign of low intelligence.

Einstein, Thomas Edison - they are intelligent, yet they didn't receive good grades.

If you receive good grades it means you're simply good at memorizing information.

In English class you have to memorize answers to tests and such. In my English class in High School we barely did any writing at all, that was a free time hobby of mine.

Yes, I live in the U.S. Perhaps things are different over there.

pick your top two out of photography graphics and media studies...

What do you want to declare as a major in college? It seems that you'd make a good Mass Communications major. If that's the direction you see yourself heading, I agree with your advisor. Either Psychology OR Business Studies should be removed... but based on what you really see yourself doing. Honestly, as interesting as Psychology is as a subject, it's not very practical or applicable in the real world. (You'll learn more about Psychology bartending part time and talking to people.) If you find it something you really want to study, take it as an elective later.

Good Luck!

I actually was in a psychology class briefly, and alot of my friends took psychology while I was in Community College last semester. They all really enjoyed it; however it was a lot of work, a lot of papers to write, a lot of vocabulary to study, and a lot of tests. You did mention you wanted to improve your writing skills..taking a course to do this BEFORE philosophy might be the best plan. You could just take psych next semester, right? Medie Studies my friend Samie took and really did enjoy it. She thought it was a lot of fun compared to most of her other classes (i.e. business and marine biology). So I would keep that one if I were you.
Personally I would not drop business because starting it in the beginning of college will allow you to know for sure whether or not business is your thing. If not you wouldn't have wasted your time putting off taking it.
Graphics and Photography two of my friends took (I took French, Fashion Illustration, and Costume Design). Both of those classes were enjoyable, they were just working with art in different mediums.
Truth is, the most reliable thing to do is go with what your careers advisor said. Yes, it doesnt exactly "fit in" with your other courses, but does that matter so much? Not really. Personally, I like to have a divided schedule so I don't feel like I'm using any one side of my brain too much or too little!
Balancing your schedule or thinking what courses you will REALLY have the time to do the work for will help.
Psych is a hefty class..

Good Luck with your decision!
