What's a good gift for someone who's into photography?

They already have an expensive camera, a printer and photo paper...they will be starting a photography course soon. anything that would be useful?

WOW, thanks for all the awesome ideas! Some are quite pricey but some I never even thought of! Will try to chose a best answer!

Some lights or some ink for printing the pictures.

film and photo album.

PHOTOSHOP!!!!!

tripod, cleaning kit, bag, cool camera strap (mickey mouse)
remote for camera,

A gift certificate to a camera shop, photograpy shop, etc.

Otherwise you run the risk of getting something they will never use.

Photo albums and picture frames

expensive cameras often have a long line of accessories to go with it. Pick one

A standing Camera might be good.
also, a lil something that they could put their photo's in... A didgital Photo frame? I'll try and think of some more stuff.

Good luck!

photo albums for their portfolio, or film, or a camera bag. something that will help them excel and when they use it they can think of you. some books for inspiration would be a good idea too.

The best thing you could get them would be a book by Ansel Adams. He will be such a good role model

digital photo frame

picture frames!! =)

Medicine kit! So whenever accident happens in his/her photoshoots, he/she will have a first aid for any injuries! Right?

Find out what kind of photography they do the most of and then find a couple books that might suited for them. David LaChapelle is a major photographer who has a new-ish book out that is pretty popular. There's also a new Ansel Adams collection out if your friend is into landscape photography.

Depending on your spending limit, you could always go with a lens, too. The "nifty fifty" is a cheap popular option.

Any good image editing program, like Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. They're really good and fun for editing and perfecting photos. Also, maybe a photo album or scrapbook.

What about framed pictures of other famous photographers works? My favorite is Robert Doisneau. He takes amazing pictures, look him up on Google to see what hes like. They're all black and white and he captures amazing moments, I could stare at his pictures for hours haha. Hope I helped!

a puppy!

Aperture's "Masters of Photography" series of photo books.

I have the Edward Weston and Henri Cartier Bresson issues.

Great inspiration!

How about a nice scrapbook or photo album they can design themselves. You can get them some of that special printing paper so they can do it right when they get a chance! Some cute picture frames would be the best, too. They could hang their own pictures around the house!

Photography is expensive. I've seen a few people here yell out photoshop, which would run you about 800 bucks, give or take (I paid $1100.00 for photoshop CS3 when it came out). lighting, is nice, but again, I have a cheap set of strobes which ran me around $400.00 (they are not even close to "top of the line"). A new lense for my camera would run around $1500 or so, photography is one of those things where you get what you pay for.

Having said all that, one thing I would personally love, is film ( have no clue if your friend does 35mm and digital, or just digital, but film can add up quickly if he shoots in 35mm). Another nice thing would be gift certs, for a good camera shop, for processing, and printing (even if he only does digital, he'll soon see its worth having a shop do your printing rather than doing it yourself).

Other things that are always nice, are filters which run about 10 bucks each, and theres a lot of different kinds. Tripods, camera bags, treat bags (I take them when I'm shooting kids, its a good way to get some smiles).

Hope some of these ideas help you!

Digi or Film photography? Digi then a good big memory card, film then rolls of film.
Photography books on the type of photography they prefer. If you're budget covers it, a good tripod (manfrotto, really right stuff or gitzo)....a few ideas for you.

gift card (any amount that you think) for B & H Photo Video in New York.

I always appreciate gift cards to camera stores, fabric stores, hobby lobby, michael's, home depot, pier 1 imports, bed bath and beyond, crate and barrel, the great indoors... I constantly need to buy props for my projects.
