I'm getting a new computer! Need the help of y/a friends, of course! All I want it for it for my amateur phot

photography. No games, etc. I want a Dell because I've heard they were the best, but......that's all I know . Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Windows means viruses, worms, spyware...

Why not get a computer with an OS that is virus free, and was created for and is used by most creative professionals?

Macintosh, with Mac OS X.

Apple consistently gets the highest ratings in reliability, ease of use, and creative applications. There is a reason Photoshop was first developed on Macintosh.

My one computer is dedicated to mostly doing photography on because photoshop wants a lot of RAM and I do not want it to bog down. The only catch is I built it at home myself and was priced less than what a person will pay if they go and buy one built.

I never built one before but it was not hard. If you don't think you can do it you can have a company build one to your specs instead of buying from a store.

Here is a link for you to "Build to Order", in other words you find one you like and then start adding to it and of course your price goes up. Compare the computer you have them build to the one you are consider buying and compare specs and price etc.

Also I have 2 Compaq computers a desktop and a laptop.

Hope this helps,

Oh, now you've done it. Your gonna get one of those "windows sucks, get a mac", "no, macs suck, get a Vista" debates going.

Somebody may throw in Linux just for fun...

Go with a name brand and an operating system that you can understand, a decent warantee, enough Ram and disk storage, and find whatever best deal you can.

See if you can get decent software bundled together with the system.

Some things you might want to check into, DVD and CD writers, so you can provide photos in various formats to clients, an external drive for backing up your work (USB attached is fine), maybe even go crazy, and get a large than normal screen, if you might have folks looking over your shoulder to view the pics...

Hope this helps...

you may want something for mutli-media, for images and possible video cameras, also options for printer and scanner,
so any average computer will do, you may also look into cd/dvd devices for making cd s to backup files and create tv movies of photos, if mainly for photography, hp would be a good alternative, with printer options and cameras,

HP cameras

you also want a few extra fans for harddrives and components to keep cool, often computers don't come with these features, and may void warranties if you add on later,

you also have option to get a laptop instead of desktop, if you're always on the move, and if so, want to have security features to help prevent theft,

the best photo software is Adobe Photoshop ,

and Corel Paint Shop Pro ,

there are others, and sometimes software comes with computer deals, and with cameras or printers,
