I would really like to go to arts school in san fransisco?

when im older, of course, cuz im only 14 & san fransisco cuz its the closest place with a good art school near me,

but the point is, i want to major in photography because its a huge passion of mine [next to guitar] but i know you have to audition,

so i was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to add good things to my resume?

There are really two schools here in San Francisco that might fit your goals: The Arts Institute and the Academy of Art.

Of the two, for photography the Academy of Art is by far the better one. Get started now on arranging for tuition and your education. If your High School offers photography as an elective, take it. If there is a photography club, join it and that includes ones that may be in your community but not associated with school. You might be surprised to find out that you could be welcome, even if they are a bunch of adults.

Research digital cameras and get yourself a good 'point and shoot' with the ability to override the automatic settings. This will give you what is known as creative control. That will mean a lot to you as you learn. Canon, Olympus, Fuji and Nikon all make good cameras. If your parents support your passion for photography, see if they will help you get a camera.

Here's something you can try. Take some pictures and get to know some professional photographers you can show them to. If they are convinced that you really are serious about photography, they may adopt you as a 'studio pet', criticise your work and give you pointers and stuff. It takes a certain amount of determination and you may get turned down, but it can work if you keep trying. Photographers as a rule love people who love photography. It's how I started when I was just 15.

Good luck!

Go out and take pictures. Take a LOT of pictures. It's easy with a digital camera 'cos they cost nothing. Put together a portfolio of your best pictures. Learn Photoshop (or similar program) and make your pics sparkle. You have 4 years, you ought to be able to do some good pics in that time!

I don't think you need any special qualifications to get into an arts school for photography. But the better you are going in, the better you are coming out. 8^)
