Going to sweden for my studies, where do i start?upper secondary[prepartory] or uni? |
I have 6 subjects in my 0 level cert from cambridge, meaning i have finished secondary school. I grad at 16. I could go over to a polytechnic for my diploma but since they don't got what i want to study there,i decided to go to sweden sometime later, for the course. What i want to know is where will i start at the education system there? Do i have to begin at their upper secondary school(prepartory) and after that proceed to their uni's for a diploma or will i be able to go straight to their uni's?[note:here where i live i can get a diploma] Also i heard and read from the website of http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/common... that tuition fee is free to internataional students and their local students. Also,is their course in uni in english or swedish? I'm also going to sweden for a holiday soon and would like t o know how much is enough? after accomodation and flight tax etc. Is 500pound enough? I'm there for sightseeing and photography,no shopping or luxur These are some really big and hard to answer questions :) Undergrad courses are normally in swedish, but there are exceptions (I answered your other question with those) That study in sweden site (the sweden.se one you mention) is the official source of info, so trust what it says over what random people like me answer on yahoo answers. Although, most of my answers would point you to there anyway. 500 GBP is just about exactly what the monthly student stipend is in Sweden (really, it's within a couple of pounds at current exchange rates), so yes, it ought to be enough, especially if that's in addition accomodation. As for your O levels, that's a bit trickier. The requirements are in Swedish here: http://www.vhs.se/upload/antagning/utlan... I'll translate a bit of that for you: For this table, it says GCE 0 level is equivalent to GCSE. You need at least 2 A levels + 3GCSE in total 5 subjects (or various other combos, in all cases, at least 1 A level though) so you will have to start with gymnasium level courses, before you can go to Uni here. Assuming you have the above (which you don't, yet) you also need to meet Swedish and English requirements. What you really need to do, is read up about Komvux, which is where you will need to go to finish the scholastic requirements (you can't go to gymnasium directly if you're an adult). Komvux is also free, and you can get a stipend to live on, but it's administered by the city you live in, so you first need to figure out where you want to live. For instance, the Komvux site for the area I live in is here: http://www.komvux.strangnas.se/main.asp... and for Stockholm is here: http://www.stockholm.se/extern/templates... If you're coming to visit anyway, you probably should find the local komvux wherever you are going to visit, and just give them a call. This is also where you go to do Swedish for Immigrants courses, so you can be sure they will speak excellent English, and can probably answer all your questions. i dont know about the lower years. but tuition is free in the post grad and courses are in english. most probably some will be in swedish in the lower years. |
